What to Look For When Renting

San Francisco is a hub of movement, business and entertainment. There is always something to do, excitement to be had and people are coming and going at all time, moving in and out of this beautiful city. There are companies throughout this Northern California city and its surrounding areas that bring people in and out on a permanent and temporary basis. When a person comes to San Francisco to work on a temporary basis they will be in need of a rental property if their stay will last longer than a month. There are a few things to look for when finding rental properties whether you are the person transferring or working in the department that locates housing.

You want to be sure that the rental is in good shape. No one expects you to be an expert with codes and construction but there are a few tell tale signs that you can easily find to let you know if the property owner or manager takes care of the rental.

First take a look at the cars and the area. Is it clean, are the cars old and poorly cared for or newer and well maintained? Is there a lot of graffiti, are there shady characters hanging around?

Second, look around the building and check the landscaping. Is it in good shape or poor shape? If there is a lawn is it green or dry and dying? Is there a lot of trash around or is it well kept?

Third be sure to make sure the property is clean when you enter the unit. A dirty unit or home shows that the owner or property manager does not adequately take care of the unit which means they most likely won't take care of you or your employee. There is an exception to this rule and that is if a tenant has recently moved out and renovations or residential carpet cleaning have just begun.

Carpeting in the home or unit is a dead give away of how someone cares for their building. If it is in a poor, ragged and dirty condition stop right there and turn around, on to the next place. Again, if someone has just recently moved out and the management or owners are willing to clean, fix and/or replace the carpet than that is acceptable.

Always demand that prior to move in a reputable carpet cleaning company is hired to perform a complete San Francisco carpet cleaning and sanitization of the carpeting. It might be a good idea to also request that they use hypo allergenic-and eco-friendly cleaning products in case the arriving employee or someone in his or her family has allergies or asthma.

By simply asking and being aware of neighborhoods and cleanliness you will be one step ahead of the game and certain to find the right place.
